The 1960s

"Captain Newman, M.D."

1963

Film about a army-shrink

"I remember jumping up and down on a hospital bed for some reason. I think it's because Angie Dickinson came into the room in a scene."

"The Americanization of Emily"

1964

A officer, stationed in London, [James Garner] is recruiting young ladies for his superiors' entertainment. He falls in love with Emily [Julie Andrews]. But....Garner is send off to take part in the invasion of Normandy.

Farrell-spotting-hint: once again....really can't be of any help here.

"I was left on the editing room floor. Very embarrassing. Took my friends to see the picture. Boy, was I red in the face!!!"

"Panic in the City"

1968

Some weirdoes want to start WW III by having a bomb exploding in LA. Howard Duff's character has to prevent this from happening.

Farrell-spotting-hint: I haven't seen this one yet, so I can't tell you where to expect him, but I do know that he plays an CIA agent.

"The Graduate"

1968

Graduate Ben [Hoffman] doesn't know what to do with his life. Mrs. Robinson, friend of the family and mother of Elaine, seduces him and they have an affair. But Ben falls in love with Elaine. Little problem!

The songs are great, but you could get a little disoriented at the beginning, because the camerawork is a bit....well.....shifting.

Farrell-spotting-hint: Best keep a magnifying-glass handy and please don't blink. J Need more help? Watch when Ben and Elaine enter the hotel for a drink.

"I remember being very excited to be there, enjoying seeing Dustin Hoffman appear to be a regular guy. I remember asking Mike Nichols if he had seen someone - I had been talking to a guy and he had wandered off, I guess, so I saw Nichols and asked him if he had seen the guy. He looked at me like I was a complete fool."

"Targets"

1969

Boris Karloff's last film. A young guy, completely obsessed with guns decides to go 'hunting'. After some target practise on cars on the highway he goes to the drive-in theatre where later that night Karloff's character's movie will be shown.

Pretty cool ending when Karloff approaches the young gunman....watch the drive-in screen in that scene!

Farrell-spotting-hint: keep an eye on the phonebooth at the drive-in. Pretty impressive crawling....

"I met and read for Peter Bogdanovitch (the director) for a part I really wanted. He was pretty nice to me and indicated he wanted to use me in the film, but asked if I'd mind playing a bit part if that role didn't work out. I figured it was better than nothing, so said I would. It turned out Peter played the roled I wanted himself (and was not very good in it) and I played the guy who got shot in the phone booth at the beginning. Hmmmm."
